How to Get Free Games on Every Platform

Epic Games Store is the single best source of free PC games. Every Thursday at 11 AM ET, Epic rotates in 1-2 new free games that you can claim and keep forever. Since launching the program in late 2018, Epic has given away hundreds of games — including major titles like GTA V, Civilization VI, Control, and Death Stranding.

The games are not demos or trials. They are full, permanent additions to your library. You "purchase" them for $0 during the giveaway week, and they remain in your account indefinitely even if you do not install them right away.

Steam does not have a fixed weekly giveaway schedule like Epic, but it is still an essential platform for free games. Publishers regularly make games permanently free or run limited-time "claim it and keep it" promotions. Steam also hosts hundreds of high-quality free-to-play games that never cost anything.

During major sales (Summer Sale, Winter Sale, seasonal events), Steam often features free game giveaways as part of the promotion. Free Weekend events let you try paid games for 2-4 days — these are not permanent claims, but they often coincide with steep discounts.

If you already pay for Amazon Prime, you have access to Prime Gaming (formerly Twitch Prime). Each month, Prime Gaming offers 5-8 free games plus in-game loot and content drops for popular titles.

Games are claimed through the Amazon Games app or linked directly to your GOG or Epic account depending on the title. One important caveat: unlike Epic and Steam giveaways, Prime Gaming games require an active Amazon Prime membership. If you cancel Prime, you lose access to those games.

GOG (formerly Good Old Games) gives away games during their seasonal sales and special promotions. What makes GOG unique is that every game is DRM-free — no launchers required, no online check-ins, no restrictions. You download the installer and the game is truly yours.

GOG giveaways tend to be classic games and well-regarded indie titles. The frequency is lower than Epic or Prime, but the DRM-free aspect makes every giveaway worthwhile for collectors who value true ownership.

PlayStation Plus Essential ($59.99/year) includes 2-3 free games every month for PS4 and PS5 players. These are often recent AAA titles — Sony has included games like God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn, and Spider-Man in past lineups. Games are announced on the last Wednesday of the month and become available on the first Tuesday of the following month.

Like Prime Gaming, you need an active PS Plus subscription to access claimed games. If your subscription lapses, claimed games become locked until you resubscribe. The games do not disappear from your library — they just become inaccessible.

PS Plus higher tiers (Extra and Premium) add access to a rotating game catalog, but those are more like a rental library than true giveaways. The Essential tier monthly games are the closest to the free PC giveaway model.
